New Jersey Community Colleges

The New Jersey Council of Community Colleges(NJCCC) maintains liaison between community colleges. Links to all of New Jersey community colleges are available here: NJCCC.

New Jersey's 19 community colleges provide local, useful, and cost-effective education to almost 100,000 students every year. Many of the courses of study are relevant to green jobs, including study in such areas as pre-engineering, architecture, environmental studies, construction, landscaping, and code inspection. These and other newer courses help students to gain immediate job skills, obtain college credit, and earn a certificate or 2 year degree or transfer to a four-year college.

Hudson Valley offers a Photovoltaic Installation Certificate program that provides the training students need to enter the growing industry of solar panel installation and maintenance. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) worked with Hudson Valley to develop the program as the agency anticipates a high demand for qualified PV installers with hundreds of PV systems expected to be installed in the upcoming years. The 21-credit hour program consists of required and elective courses in the Electrical Construction and Maintenance A.O.S. degree program. These courses include a basic AC/DC electricity course and residential and commercial construction wiring courses which serve as a foundation for two courses in PV theory and practice. Both the established journeyman electrician looking for advancement and the potential student interested in the renewable energy field can benefit from the Photovoltaic Installation program.
